José E. Soler-Ochoa is a senior lawyer and litigator specializing in general civil matters predominantly concentrated in medical malpractice matters and litigation. He also serves as one of several Of Counsels of the international consulting firm Masini Global Group. Mr. Soler-Ochoa began his professional career as a practicing Clinical Psychologist after graduating from the University of Puerto Rico with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and subsequently obtaining a master’s of Science in Psychology from the Psychologic Institue of Puerto Rico. Subsequently Mr. Soler-Ochoa obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the Catholic University of Puerto Rico.
Initially upon obtaining his law degree Mr. Soler-Ochoa went to work in private practice concentrating in civil litigation matters. He later went on to become an Assistant District Attorney with the Department of Justice of Puerto Rico handling and prosecuting a variety of criminal matters in the Bayamón and Utuado offices. Desiring to also serve the under privileged he transitioned to be a defense lawyer with the Legal Aid Society of Puerto Rico providing legal representation for economically disadvantaged people in criminal cases. Subsequently Mr. Soler-Ochoa returned to private practice joining the Irizarry-Colon Law Firm where he became a partner in the firm and began to develop his expertise in medical malpractice defense. In 1993 Mr. Soler-Ochoa joined the prestigious law firm of Soler-Favale & Masini-Soler one of the premier general litigation, insurance and medical malpractice defense law firms in Puerto Rico. At Soler-Favale & Masini-Soler he handled and supervised general civil litigation matters and also handled insurance and medical malpractice defense litigation.
In 2006 Mr. Soler-Ochoa took a leave of absence from the Soler-Favale & Masini-Soler Law Firm to serve as Assistant General Counsel for the Medical-Hospital Joint Responsibility Insurance Syndicate of Puerto Rico (SIMED). After serving at SIMED he returned to Soler-Favale & Masini-Soler to resume his prior duties there where he continues to this day as well as overseeing offices in Arecibo, Puerto Rico and serving as Of Counsel for the Masini Global Group. Mr. Soler-Ochoa is admitted to the bars of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, The U.S. District Court for the District of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
